Annual vacation deer hunt

Recommended Posts

Last couple years I drive to north Louisiana and do a little deer hunting. This year I didn’t harvest any venison YET. Lol Although my hunt doesn’t exclude wild mushrooms. I’ll usually find oysters and Lions mane this time of the year. No oysters last trip though. Finally got the chance to try these crab cakes everyone talks about. WOOWWWWEY !! They are delicious!! Added a little too much of our South Louisiana crawfish/ boil. Other than that they came out pretty good.

Very nice !! Congratulations!! My first archery kill was 3 years ago and turned out to be an awesome 8 point. Haven’t harvested one with my bow since ☹️😂. I get doe fever , buck fever and hog fever lol. I really enjoy stalking/ ground hunting. Came really close to harvesting does from the ground last two years but choked bad. Clean misses at 7 and 20 yards. Just the experience is worth it. Buck was harvested from a tree

Nice getting plenty of deer here in VA but haven't found any mushrooms lately. We have several 8 pointers an two 10 pointers are in the 19 to 20 inch in spread nice bucks for hear. No room left in the freezer for meat wish we could say that about the mushrooms. Me and our 6 year old son took these last week just doing skull mounts. Wish we were as talented at finding mushrooms LOL well guess we have to hunt mushrooms a little harder next year. That's a 12oz Dr Pepper can for size comparison. I'll be posting some venison mushroom recipes in the next couple of days with mushrooms we found fresh and dried.IMG_20211203_211823406.thumb.jpg.89f30b82f5c13589c4942247aaaf4362.jpgIMG_20211203_212023870.thumb.jpg.876a68fb2724c46159d5398268941498.jpgIMG_20211203_212023870.thumb.jpg.876a68fb2724c46159d5398268941498.jpgIMG_20211203_212023870.thumb.jpg.876a68fb2724c46159d5398268941498.jpgIMG_20211203_212023870.thumb.jpg.876a68fb2724c46159d5398268941498.jpg

Cajun, got mine from a tree also. Been stalking (or being stalked) a 10 point buck, big boy he is. Always on camera but never out during hours, lol.  I usually get 2-3 deer a year. Rifle is almost over but archery comes back in. That’s a good thing. Got a road kill this year. About 30 minutes after hit, so that was bonus venison. Small doe, probably 50 pounds but I was not letting it go to waste. Wish we had hogs here, well maybe not but it would be fun to hunt.

Shroomeddy, that’s one nice rack! Great job. You and your son did well. Looking forward to recipes. Mushroom season is done here in Pa. It’s sad. Now I just wander around the woods…squirrels, deer, rabbits….sometimes a bear…no mushrooms. Looking forward to next year. Got so many this year, it was crazy. Lions mane every single day!

Between school and scouts, my son has not been out much, weekends pretty much. Now it’s Eagle Scout project time, along with his and helping other scouts, weekends are tough.
