Bolete look alike…need to identify

Found several mushrooms that looked very much like boletes except that they have gills rather than spores.. Found near pine and redwoods on side of trail on California North Coast just today (Mid Nov). Firm flesh, cap snaps right off just like a bolete and smells like a bolete as well. Any idea what they are or edibility?

Looks like a Cortinarius.  There's a web like attachment between the cap and gills in a couple photos.  Obviously, a spore print would be necessary to confirm.  It would be rusty brown if Cortinarius

As said, spore print color would settle the Tricholoma vs. Cortinarius debate. But, a young specimen like this one may fail to drop spores. If you can find a more mature specimen then your chances improve.

I think this mushroom is a Cort; possibly a species in the C. variicolor complex.
