Some type of ink cap mushroom ?

Recommended Posts

Probably a species in the category Coprinellus section Micacei. These are the "Mica Cap" species of genus Coprinellus. When fresher it's more likely one will observe tiny glistening flakes on the caps. But these often erode away. I see some granules on the one stem. This points toward the species C. micaceus (as opposed to C. truncatus, which has a bald stem). Black spore print supports this ID proposal... although all types of  "Ink Cap" mushrooms have black spore print.

For a more confident ID proposal fresher material is preferable. Also, although Mica Caps are edible, they probably should not be eaten once the gills darken.
