wyzoon
I found these in the edge of a field right next to a forest. They have the coloring but i wasn't sure. Thanks!
Dave W
Cap color is a bit darker than I'd expect for R. cyanoxantha. Other than a small percentage of species that may be IDed via filed characteristics, IDing most Russula species requires mounting the spores in Melzers reagent, scoping at 400x or 1000x, and then assessing the size and patterning of the amyloid ornamentation on the spores. Other details that should be noted include: odor, taste, percentage of cap radius that the cuticle peels, spore print color.
