JOHNY
Is this Guepinia? Spore print in process and hoping for white. I found it for the first time, at the bottom of a sloping land behind my back yard. 60 years ago it was a sand a gravel quarry. It was back filled long ago. Tree regenerated spontaneously. Mostly Aspen, Manitoba Maple and a few Bur Oaks and Ash These mushrooms were in an area of partial shade, totally dominated by Manitoba Maple (Box Elder). That concerns me because all descriptions on the web say Guepinia is usually found with conifer and buried conifer wood.
Calvert
Sure looks like Guepinia helvelloides. Perhaps there were conifers there at one point and the wood is buried? Other than the ecology, the description matches perfectly. Some species of Otidea are similar morphologically, but none have that colour, I believe. Dave W
I've never found Guepinia. But, the photos seen at Champignons du Quebec look like a perfect match. Species of Otidea lack the textured/veined/bumpy underside like what is seen in Johny's photo.
Calvert
Nice find! I'd love to find it someday. Really picturesque fungi.
