Sherwood
I have these growing in my mulch and the closest I could find in my book is Blewit. Everything seems to match with description and fragrant smell. I am waiting on the spore print right now, but if it come back pinkish then is there anything to indicate that they are not Blewits? I am curious to read your thoughts! Edit* - Location: Southern Upstate New York, just outside Binghamton. Edit* 10/10/2021 - Confirmed Blewit Mushroom! Thank you! Patrick from Ontario
Not an expert but if the spore print turns out I think you are correct in your identification of Lepista nuda I have only one experience with L. nuda and it was under the same circumstances...mulch, autumn (last week), and also the same attributes like young specimens having inrolled margins, buff spore print, etc Wait for confirmation from the more experienced folk on here before consuming
Kevin Hoover
My concern is with the possibility of some of the brown I’m seeing from the lower mushrooms being spores. If so not a blewit but a poisonous Cortinarius.
Calvert
Yes, Blewits! Kevin, that rusty brown colouration from the cortina and the spore deposit on it would be higher up on the stipe.
Calvert
A spore print would be good to confirm, but I'm 99% sure they're Blewits . (Lepista nuda)
Kevin Hoover
I was looking at the brown I’m seeing on the caps.

Calvert
Not sure about the brown staining cap . Still sure they are Blewit.

It may be the result of the wet red mulch flakes sitting on the cap. We have been getting a lot of rain this year.
JOHNY
Blewits One of their favoured habitats is yard waste/mulch...but not too much woody material A wide flared stem base without a cup/volva. There is not any hint of ring or any residual brown coloured ring on the stem The gills have a slight notch as they meet the stem All the above are easy to see in your pics. Most critical...a "pink Brown" spore print. It looks like this:
Dave W
Spore print color for Lepista nuda varies between very pale pinkish to occasionally a somewhat more pigmented pinkish-tan than the prints seen in the last photo. Corts have much more vividly rusty brown prints. I agree that Sherwood's mushrooms are Blewits (Lepista nuda).
