bprzyw
Sweet haul! Was out the other day here in Pa looking and only came up with 10lbs of hen of the woods. Cannot wait for honeys to appear here! ย
Kevin Hoover
Theyโve been out here in central PA for the last three weeks. ย I could have picked a lot yesterday but I wasnโt prepared to wade across a fast moving creek. ย Iโm seeing many aborted entolomas in the woods In back of the house. Dave from tn.
Thatโs good to know, Iโll be on the look-out! I did exactly as planned today and hit the jackpotโผ๏ธ 10 hours ago, bprzyw said: Sweet haul! Was out the other day here in Pa looking and only came up with 10lbs of hen of the woods. Kevin Hoover
If youโre finding honeys, Iโm thinking aborted entolomas (shrimp of the woods) wonโt be far behind. ย Iโve got a load of those on my property right now.
bprzyw
Oh man thatโs a forest of honeys! Tuesday I was out and the honeys were up! Picked a ton. Here they are a bit darker. Also got another hen. Always wanted to make hen jerky but I keep forgetting. ย
Dave from tn.
Awesome! Found two hens today and half lb. of lions mane! Iโve been keeping my eye out for the shrimp!
Dave W
I think the Hericium mushroom seen in the last photo is either H. americanum (Bear's Head) or H. corraloides (Comb Tooth). Lion's Mane (H. erinaceus) forms large singular bearlike clusters of spines that are often over one inch long (ie. over 2.5 cm). All Hericium mushrooms are excellent edibles, and ID to genus is easy to learn (although exact species --like as seen here-- can be a bit tricky).ย
Calvert
Mium!ย Hericium are my most favourite to eat!ย They're so delicious. I haven't found any this year 5 hours ago, Dave W said: either H. americanum (Bear's Head) or H. corraloides (Comb Tooth) Probably the later.ย I was confused for a bit until I realized the photo was upside down. Dave from tn.
Very tasty indeed! Itโsย very hard to distinguish between the two. I assumed all Hericium were called lions mane thanks for the correction! ย I found this Coral a few weeks back and was very surprised by the looks and taste that it wasnโt classified as a Hericium.ย
Calvert
I'm salivating looking at these photos!ย Thanks for sharing! They really are one of the most beautiful looking fungi as well. 34 minutes ago, Foulhook said: Get out there brother!ย I know. I know.ย I have lots of idle time to post on here while at work, but precious little time to go foraging.ย ย It's pouring rain outside my window and I would love nothing more than to go picking in the woods.ย Frustrating.
