I found some more toothed fungus that I did taste test and is not bitter. They have a strangely sweet aroma like maple syrup. They ranged in size - 7 inch mature to smaller 2 inch caps with the undersides dark brown to light beige, flesh is white. Now I think it to be the scaly hedgehogs - not like the ones i found previously with the grey stalks. So this must be Sarcodon imbricatus, but info says they are found associated with conifers, and these were found under oak with no conifers in the mix in southwestern Ontario!
