Dave from tn.
Found today growing on a decomposing tree in a hardwood forest in Tn. Looks like some kind of a mica (ink) cap but never seen these before. Looks like spore prints are coming back dark brown. Lows have been in upper 50s and highs in low 80s. All thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated as usual!!
Dave W
Either Coprinopsis variegata or Coprinopsis picacea. I've been calling most of these Scaly Inky Cap Mushrooms, C. variegata. But it occurs to me the two species noted here are quite similar. I'm gonna do some checking into what the differences may be.
