  1. So I found what I think is Chaga...but it wasn't on a birch tree! Any help with ID would be awesome! Thank you in advance. See pictures
  2. Hi everyone, I just wanted to post some material on my experience with Chaga, and see how other people are preparing theirs. So far I have brewed tea, and I have to say, it tastes much better than I had anticipated. It has a slight bitterness, with a vanilla-like flavour. I drink my coffee black, so I like the slight bitter taste, but adding some honey eliminates that slight acrid taste. Some say to steep the grounds in hot water for 5 mins, but I have always boiled the grounds on high for at least 1 hour, to get more constituents out. The longer you boil, the more bitter the brew. However, if it’s too strong, just dilute it with water. After boiling for an hour on high, I pour the brew through a cheese cloth. You can save the grounds in the fridge, and reuse them several times, until the water stops changing colour. How do you brew your tea? Do you have any unique recipes? Chai tea lattes? Ice cream? Can you see the 75lb hunk of chaga in the tree? Look close.
  3. Hi everyone! I've just moved to New Brunswick and was on a discovery walk this afternoon and found what i thought might be chaga on the ground next to and growing on a fallen tree. It was raining so I took the mushroom pieces and brought them home to look at. They are very wet and have tiny pin holes on the smooth side of the mushroom. When i broke them apart they are reddish brown on the inside. Any help would be great!
  4. Last year I decided to harvest some Chaga and process it for tea. I've seen a few ways but am curious which way others are doing it. When I processed mine, I broke it up with a hatchet and then used a coffee grinder to get it a little finer. Then I use a coffee filter to steep it like tea. Someone suggested that I boil a chunk in a pot so that way I can reuse it. This got me wondering how others have been doing it. How do you process and then brew your Chaga tea?
  5. Hi - I just harvested these this morning. Pretty sure it's chaga...can anyone confirm? It's a just slightly over 4 pounds. Thanks.
  6. Greetings. First time posting on this site. I live in Virginia and have been looking at mushrooms since I've been reading about medicinal mushrooms. On a recent hike I discovered these. Anyone know what they are. I know they are brackets but not sure what. Any help?
