  1. Vitog, Thank You for the link. Yes, this is WA...how did you know?
  2. Ladyflyfsh, I'm sorry, I know you are not a mind reader. I had just introduced myself and it says I live in the pacnwst. These would be the Pacific Northwest mushrooms. There are a few folks around here (WA and OR) that do lectures and lead mushroom hunts that I have had the pleasure of being around, along with my family so I felt alright tasting the mushroom, but freaked out when I thought about not really having a positive id, it was the location of the mushrooms that threw me off (in pine needles and not a grassy meadow). My neighbor eats them every year as she feels positive about them, but since there are two types growing in the same spot I decided to just admire them, which is usually what I do unless they are ones I am actually growing or buy.
  3. Call this a lesson learned the hard way. I am alright and had no reaction whatsoever, however, I will NEVER do it again as it gave me a chill thinking about the possibilities. I prefer to admire and photograph as well and after my scare I think I'm gonna stay on the admiration side of the fence.
  4. I have 'North American Mushrooms' by Orson K. Miller JR, and Hope H. Miller And am waiting on 'Mushroom Demystified' by Arora which I have heard is one of the best on the market from many folks. I also watched this youtube two hour presentation that I found very helpful: So much to learn... uffta
  5. Illuminating and scary. I relied on a neighbor and made a mistake, but I only tasted it (a very tiny bit) and then spit it out as the fear element kicked into place.
  6. Hi, Nice to meet you. Well, I would hope so, there is so much fungi round these parts.
  7. I have so many kinds of mushrooms in my yard, this learning process is actually very tricky. Here is what I found today.
  8. Thank you both. Dave I am thinking you may be right. I did do a tiny taste test just to get it on the tongue and then spit it out and it seemed alright, they smell nice also, Pleurotus.
  9. Hello all. I recall as a child my family going mushroom hunting, I was only the recipient of the bounty. I'm very interested in all things wild and edible, especially mushrooms. It's good to be here, Niish-
  10. Hello forum. I have lots of mushrooms growing in my yard, especially the part that is a bit of a pine forest and natural. These are actually growing under a camellia in big fairy circle fashion (half circle actually) that is surrounded by huge old pines. I only have a field guide and feel uncertain about them, well, my id of them at least. I titled the photo as Agaricus Campestris as that is what my neighbor thought. Thank You for any help. I also have lots of the other two types. .
