Hi guys!
I have never collected or IDed any wild mushrooms before, but saw this growing next to a tree outside my house (northeast central Ohio) and it fascinated me, so I looked it up, and it appeared to be the edible laetiporus cincinnatus, but I just wanted to get some more experienced opinions before I actually cook it!
I don't know what kind of tree it was except that it wasn't coniferous.
If it's any help, it's been raining nonstop here for about 2 weeks (not normal for this climate), but I assume most fungus grows best in moist environments.
Here's a picture of the pore surface of a piece of the mushroom, one of the top of the same piece and a kind of awful picture of the whole thing
Thanks in advance for your help!
