  1. Jealous of the Italian banter - wish I could understand it! My grandfather was an avid mushroom hunter from San Giovanni in Fiore.
  2. First collected one for me, but I recall seeing a large specimen near Shippensburg in my college days. Looked it up at school but couldn't re-find it...sad day for a Bio major lol.
  3. Grazie Mille, Luigi! First I've found, so I had no definite ideas for it. We just returned from a trip, and haven't cooked it yet. Even though my grandfather was Calabrese, I still love making risotto. But tradition demands I add pepper flakes!
  4. Hey kkstep - also a newbie here. Grew up in the McKeesport area, and my first collected edible was also sulphurus. I found them on Yough river bike trail. I also found a bunch of oysters there.
  5. I'd like to find some of the "leatherbacks" my students' families collect.
  6. Creating my account here was good luck! found a small one less than 200 yards from my back door. First one I've found. it's on a 8" diameter tree's root. Cut it at ground level. Hopefully it will fruit larger with time as the tree grows. Anyone have a "pet" crispa that comes back reliably out there?
  7. Hi all! I am a bio teacher in VA. I've collected about 8 edible species in my time, and have grown a few from plug logs. My current shitake and oyster stumps and logs are running well. The maitake...not so much. Trying king stroph and almond 'bello beds, but fear they've actually gotten TOO wet. Looking forward to learning a lot here.
