I have a question about whether or not I need to get a new knife for my mushroom foraging. Last summer I signed up for a mycology club, and went out on a mini hike where we brought back our specimens for ID practice. The mycologist who took us out ID’ed one of my specimens as the destroying angel. Since it was my first time out, I didn’t know to cut into the soil on mushrooms I didn’t know, so I cut the stalk.
I’ve since washed the knife 2-3x with hot water and soap. I’m paranoid that the toxin is still there, and if I use it again this summer, it will be bad news bears for me. Should I just get a new knife and start all over with better practices this summer?
