Agaricus Newbie

Agaricus Newbie (1/5)

  1. These specimens were found in a pine forest near a river in coastal South Carolina. They were growing from the remains of a tree that was in an advanced stage of decomposition, I was unable to determine if the tree was a conifer or hardwood. There were also several antlers growing up and out of the site. I am unsure of the exact species but suspect it is either G. curtsii, G. meredithiae or G. Sessile.
  2. Hello, I found this mushroom growing near a dirt road in a swampy part of the South Carolina lowlands. There were several mushrooms mostly growing solitary or in small clusters on a felled tree. The mosquitos were pretty bad so I didn't stick around to get better notes on the habitat and I didn't have a camera with me either . I think the tree was either a cypress or a hardwood. Some of the more aged specimens had dark orange coloring while the fresher specimens were the same hue of yellow as in the photos. The mushroom gills have a pleasant mushroom odor, very similar to fresh mycelium on grain spawn. Spores appear to be brown/orange-brown, I should have a better idea of color after spore print has had 24 hours to drop more spores. There are scales of some sort caps near the conical tip of the cap, best displayed in the third photo.
  3. I think they ended up not getting enough O2 in the end. I harvested a couple of days ago when they began releasing a steady cloud of spores. The stipes were long and the caps were much smaller than normal, i think my largest caps were around 1" in diameter. Many of the fresh pins on the top began to abort as well. Here's a photo a little later in their development while they were still maturing:
  4. Ah, the instructions in my kit were to make 1" slits on each side of the bag. They seem to be taking shape and are growing really fast now.
  5. Hi all and happy new year. I recently purchased a Golden Oyster fruiting kit and I am attempting my first grow. Around 36 hours ago the mycelium began to fruit. It's looked similar to a head of cauliflower and I just wanted to check if this looks normal. I've kept the temperature around 75F and humidity between 84-90%. The CO2 level is unknown, hopefully they are getting enough O2. I'm misting 2-3 times a day. Do these pins look healthy?
  6. I'd say the flesh was in a range of 0.75-1 inch.
  7. The mushrooms were discovered on a felled hardwood tree in the coastal South Carolina lowcountry. The tops of the caps are smooth and have multiple bands of brownish hues. The leading edge of the caps are white and gently rounded. I could not pull a spore print. The pore surfaces are white and did not bruise. The flesh was white, very tough to cut and had an earthy/mushroomy smell.
  8. Thanks Dave. I'll keep tabs on its development.
  9. The mushrooms have an almost suede or velvet texture that isn't captured in the photos. They are growing from a wound on an Oak tree. The weather has been unseasonably warm this month and feels more like April than December. Maybe conditions have been just right Laetiporus sulphureus?
  10. Discovered these growing from a removed branch of hardwood tree in Charleston, South Carolina. The gills have a faintly anise like odor and the spores appear white on aluminum foil. Have I found oyster mushrooms? Thank you
