hello,
i am new to finding mushrooms, but living in colorado and having soo much rain in the past couple weeks, i decided to take my 4yo daughter for a hike if nothing else! we found a lot of the king bolete that was showed to me and verified by a friend. cooked up they were awesome! but being very new to this, i am still nervous that i may get something wrong? yesterday i found several large mushrooms that look just like the king bolete, but they have a soft kind of spongy cap? and they seem to feel much lighter than those my friend verified for me. (he is no longer around to ask) i have been looking all over online for an answer, but too much information is what i usually find? of course i didnt get a picture of them and threw away because i was scared! but i feel bad if i threw out some gold! been looking/hiking around 10,500' to maybe 12,500' in colorado. if any of this makes sense without pictures, i would appreciate the help! now that i found this place i will find some more and post. oh, there was no discoloration when cutting anywhere, and not gills, but tubes that were almost perfectly white! just worried about the soft cap and weight...
thank you guys
