  1. http://www.sharnoffphotos.com/lichen_info/usetaxon.html you can sort by taxon or type of use i wish i could find a similar list for fungi. if anyone knows of such a thing, holler!
  2. Cool thx for the response! It actually looks identical to this one: http://blogs.evergreen.edu/fiseva21/?page_id=174 which I find interesting because it’s quite different looking from the H. abietes on say, Wikipedia.
  3. Hi is this stunted/rain damaged or do they always have this appearance (it’s a bit more pale orangey than my photo shows, also the branching is almost coral like rather than icicle like) thx:)
  4. Ok going back to the original question, you can smoke them. Build a basic setup out of what is available in the forest (lots of YouTube tutorials etc) or I suppose you could buy a smoker. In my opinion the labor of this totally makes sense if you have a lot. I’ve also stored mushrooms in vinegar but always with at least a quick boil in water first if not longer depending on what I’m working with (honey mushrooms I’d boil longer) There are recipes for this kind of thing around. I have totally dehydrated mushrooms in paper bags in my car, just checking on them a lot/rotating things around. Paper bags can do wonders for wicking moisture out.
  5. Oh that makes sense. Thx for the lead!
  6. hi, I think this was growing on a down maple log but hard to say. Could otherwise be alder, Doug fir, or west hemlock. growing in the nw cascades in WA the sort of appressed decurrent gills are kinda cool. Older on the left, younger on the right. thx for lookin:)
  7. Ah nah.. i composted them and then had the afterthought to post and ask the forum. But honestly, with how typical it looked I wonder how much help a pic would have been. is it possible that some in the R xerampelina group are acrid?
  8. Anyone have a lot of experience with Russula xerampelina group? I was checking out a new mushroom spot and gathered what really hit all the marks from shrimps except when I gave them the test test at home they were acrid!! What gives? creamy gills, creamy cap blushed with pink, stipe exterior firm with pithy core, odor very classically shrimpy… but Super Duper Unmistakably ACRID! thx for your input!
  9. This is a great question and I’ve often wondered the same thing. I tend to push the limits with bugginess and have not experienced issues personally. But the guides always say…
