I have been picking these most of my life. My uncle taught me to pick these. Everyone that picks these just call them yellows. They are found under evergreens and poplar trees and they love moss. They show upin the early part of October and become more plentiful after a heavy frost. We find them alone and in small groups.
The caps are have a med brown center and fade to a light mustard yellow color towards the edges and I have found them up to 5 inches across but most are approx 3 inches or less. Theycan be a conical shape or flat topped. The ones that grow in heavy moss tend to be conical and the ones in the pine needles tend to be flat. The stem is uniform and yellow. The gills are yellow.
Thanks
