Agaricus Newbie (1/5)

  1. I've been hoping to find Turkey Tails that I can clone on agar and start cultivating. I did find these and was initially excited, but after a bit of research I fear that I have found Trametes ochracea, not true Turkey Tails (Trametes versicolor). Location: Swedish pine and birch forest. (Actually, can anyone confirm they even grow in Sweden? If so, when? All year round?) P.S. I've got no idea what that last green one is ... I included it just because it looks cool.
  2. Well I won't eat the rest just to be on the safe side. The old folk in this area say that any of those field mushrooms that are brown underneath are good to go, but there's no point in risking a night on the toilet for an okay-tasting meal.
  3. Well, definitely don't eat it! It's not a death cap, but it might be a destroying angel, which, as the name implies, is not any better as far as food goes! We would need a picture of the bit under the ground where you picked the mushroom to be a thousand percent certain. But most certainly don't eat it. It's is highly probably a very toxic amanita and if I'm wrong about that, it's definitely not a common gourmet edible mushroom.
  4. Hej, This is my first time picking field mushrooms. When I got home, I noticed a bit of a yellow stain at the base of one of the smaller ones (you can see it in the picture), and also a little bit on one of the other's caps. However, none of these mushrooms smell like anything but mushrooms. I also cooked them (as an experiment for now), as I read that xanthodermus go a more intense yellow and give off a more intense iodine odour when cooked. But they look and smell great (they actually look a lot more yellow in that photo than in real life). I can't see any noticeable yellow or weird smell even after cooking. I did taste a very little bit of them (cooked) and they don't exactly taste like store-bought bisporus mushrooms. Similar, but more strongly flavoured. A bit earthy. But the fact that there was clear yellow staining on at least one (small one, center in the photo of them all piled up) does concern me. Someone told me that other edible agaricus mushrooms can indeed stain a little bit yellow, just not much. How safe am I do you think? Pictures say it all - found in Sweden in the autumn (fall) in cow meadows.
  5. post deleted. Images don't display for some reason.
  6. Yes, go to the shroomery.com and ask there.
  7. Liberty caps bruise blue at the base. It's one of the first things to check when identifying them.
  8. I found this mushroom in poor, gravely soil on the side of the road in Sweden, autumn. From what I can gather from my own research they are Leucoagaricus leucothites (White Dapperling). I do not plan to eat them, I'm just curious.
