  1. Am I safe to eat this either way, or should I do a spore print? Bottom one is gone and beyond eating even if it was edible lol.
  2. So top is edible? Are there any poisonous boletes?
  3. I'd really like to find an edible boletes one of these days but I have no idea what to look for and there are so many of them. So here are two I picked. The second one (pics 3 and 4) really went bad quick after I picked it.
  4. Oh nice, that does look like them. Are they not edible? I grabbed that bunch hoping they might be.
  5. Found these growing around a maple tree, if I remember correctly, in northern Wisconsin. Any idea what they are?
  6. See that's what I was wondering. I always heard about the false morel and then I finally found them and was like, "who the would mistaken that for a morel, let alone even want to eat that if it was one?" I didn't know if this is the same deal where once you finally find one you are sort of miffed that it gets so mistaken. But then again maybe people just aren't as cautious as me. I'm red-green colorblind too so that makes me extra cautious.
  7. So this spot I'm in is in northern Wisconsin. I know it has chanterelles and I picked a bunch there, but I've never found its lookalike, the jack-o'-lantern, and that sort of worries me. There were these big groups if what I highly think are chanterelles, but the fact they are in a tight cluster worries me that they could be jack-o'-lanterns. I've read tons of descriptions, and I just cannot figure out the difference in the gills when I look at pictures. These seem to be pale on the inside and string cheese like, like chanterelles. Anyone have any idea? I have them in the fridge but if there are any doubts I'm going to toss them. Any concrete layman's tips for identifying Jack's?
  8. Damnit, two weeks is two weeks too late lol! I've never eaten any boletes, so I'll keep an eye out for them. Hopefully they are not too difficult to identify.
  9. I'm going up to northern MN to the boundary waters this weekend. Anything specific you would suggest I keep an eye out for? I'm never good on what to look for this time of year. Appreciate any help!
  10. The top one was outside and had better lighting, so probably that one. They did darken up quite a bit though overnight. Also, related question. I've heard you can take a little bite and taste any mushroom, no matter the toxicity, as long as you spit it out? Is this true and do you just have to spit it out or do you need to like rinse your mouth out afterwards?

  12. Found these two growing in my yard in the mulch touching each other they were so close. Don't pay attention to the darker part of the spore print as it's wet. Aren't super fragrant and I have a cold so they're hard to smell.
  13. I've only eaten one indigo but I liked it, at least texture wise. Been hoping to find one all damn year but haven't found one.
  14. So quick question, I read something about farming them. If I grinded some up and spread it out over the area will that likely give me more next year?
