Hello everyone. I've officially caught the wild mushroom hunting bug - While working on the ever evolving urban garden I stumbled into some youtube videos related to mushroom hunting, then I started looking around at some of the online identification tables and reading through some helpful forums - After only a couple days I couldn't take it any longer and went outback near my house in Southern Virginia to see what I could see. In roughly 90 minutes I was able to find 20 different types of mushrooms/fungus in no more than about 300 square foot location. I don't know if this is out of the ordinary or normal once a person learns about and begins to actually look for mushrooms, however I was beyond surprised at the diversity of different types/kinds within such a small location. At this point I'm only interested in learning and gaining confidence in identifying the different types of mushrooms, so only collecting for identification purposes for now. May one day consider consuming some of the more popular types like Chanterelle or Morels if 100% ID can be established without uncertainty. Of the 20 different types - I believe I've been able to identify 3 confidently, 3 others which I'm not certain about, and the rest are complete mysteries to me. So very difficult to identify at this point. I'm a bit more informed about the information needed to properly identify now, so I will be looking to gather that information more thoroughly from now on. More photos of each and identifying features/characteristics. I'll be creating individual posts for each to see if I can get help identifying. Thanks for any input/help provided.
