I found some mushrooms in my yard (not to eat, just wanted to have an idea of what they are). I picked some (not to eat of course, just to ID), and I took a spore print using a white sheet of paper. The spore print was purple. Could these be toxic? I was a bit concerned about this, as I have a dog who will eat random things in sight whenever he's outdoors (including mushrooms most likely, he's even tried to eat pebbles if I take my eyes off him for a split second). In fact, he's tried to eat these things but I quickly averted the situation. However, it always makes me nervous as these damn things are growing right near my door and I don't know how I'm going to walk him without going past these things on the way out my door in the morning (or evening) for his walk. So, I just felt like I should know what these things are. I've tried raking them away to get rid of them, but they have kept coming back. They seem rather indestructible as they keep appearing right next to my doorstep. What are they? They have a purple spore print, but I don't know much else other than they are brown in color with gills underneath. Sorry I don't have a camera at the moment, my webcam is broken and I have no cell phone or digital camera.
I've also noticed that the tissue of the mushroom appears to stain blue when injured. Is this a significant feature?
