  1. I found these on a dead log growing out from under the bark here in Ohio. Are there any other mushrooms that look like ductifera pululahuana that are poisonous?
  2. I just let them dry out a little bit and washed them. I missed a little bit, and ate some grit - but you know what they say "dirt don't hurt" My boys weren't fanatical about it though I did a wine reduction and ate it with salmon.
  3. On a lighter note, I found several completely identifiable Morels this weekend when travelling in Wisconsin. That did feel good. Unfortunately, I couldn't get more because we had to leave Sunday and it was a 10 hour drive. Could anyone tell me the best way of getting the dirt off the morels? There seems to be some gritty/sandy soil that has managed to creep its way into the crevices. I was thinking of drying them first and then washing them thoroughly?
  4. Green Bay, Wisconsin this weekend. Wish I could have stayed. Too warm here in Columbus, Ohio
  5. I found more in this tomato plant, looks like the tomato took a hit for them though All but the 2 littlest leaves are dead on this one
  6. I would love to one day feel comfortable with picking and eating wild mushrooms but every mushroom I find seems to be less than 100% definable. It makes me worried one day I will eat a mushroom that will turn my insides out. I have only ever eaten one mushroom I picked myself, and they were shaggy manes. I was not all too pleased with them texturally. Mushrooms are so complex, it's like trying to pick out siblings in a group of millions of people. Anyway, I'm wondering if the darkness could be related to the growth medium or lightning/humidity. Most of the caps were lighter.
  7. I picked another of those that you had thought to be Panaeolus that is almost entirely black/dark brown, and I am wondering now if it could be something else? Or is it possible for the Panaeolus cinctulus to become that dark?
  8. That's what I was thinking on the cinctulus But I am not an expert. I found more of the first pic type growing under a rock at the edge of our garden that we tilled the manure into. Here is what they look like expanded. You can probably see the manure there as well, I think it has some pine shavings mixed in it but it was cooking all winter. .
  9. The larger veiled one seems to be different than the other. The pot I plucked the smaller one from had these crop up today and they don't look anything like the veiled one. I wish we hadn't tossed the others. The spore print seems to be black on the smaller one as well. I'll try on a black background now that I have more.
  10. I got a load of composted horse manure last year and have had it in a pile since then, I used some of it to start seedlings in my closet for tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. Well, I've been having mushrooms pop up here and there and I was hoping someone might be able to help id these. I live in Ohio and these are growing in my closet with a fluorescent light on 12 hours a day I've been plucking them mostly, so they don't harm my plants. I have only these 2 right now to show, and I plucked them today so no spore prints.. Anyone have any idea? now to show, and I plucked them today so no
  11. I've looked at guides for edible mushrooms in Ohio and they seem sparse. I look up mushrooms with my books and they always have something slightly different than the closest I can find. I hope I become more knowledgeable over time but would love some help in he mean time. Here are 3 mushroom types that my boys picked for me today but I am afraid to identify.
  12. Hi, I'm new to the forums and new to mushroom hunting. My boyfriend and I are very interested in finding edible mushrooms here in Ohio but are just too uncomfortable with our knowledge, even with books to eat most of the things we find! I may post some photos here shortly of mushrooms my boys picked today if anyone wants to help me identify. Thanks
