  1. Thank you! There are a ton of large russulas (r. piperitas, I think) as well as lactarius (candy caps? Not brave enough to try them, waiting for positive, in-person ID by someone who knows more than I do). I had heard of lobster mushrooms, but I didn't realize they were caused by mold. That make perfect sense! Still not going to eat any of them- I'll wait for ID help. But really, the best part is taking pictures & trying to figure out what they are. Thanks for the help, here's a few pics for your trouble
  2. Hello! New to the forum, been foraging solo (and extremely carefully) on my property for a few years. Found this dude today, I've never see anything like it- google was unfruitful. Anybody recognize this beast? No odor, firm & not viscous, no bruising or latex. I am between 500-1000' altitude, it was on a flat/plateau portion of a northwestern facing (STEEP!!) hill, in a 20-40 year old stand of Douglass Fir with little forest-floor foliage & 6-10" of needles/debris. I am on the eastern border of the mid-oregon coastal range, and the western border of the Willammette valley (Alsea, OR). Anybody know what this is? Thank you!!
