Agaricus Newbie (1/5)

  1. Thanks. It was pretty weathered by the time I happened upon it. Curious thing--first one I've ever noticed.
  2. Here's today's mystery. Found this under a large shrub, growing close to a tree root. Very thin "leaves," really just one in a funnel formation. The outside feels like a dry leaf, and the inside is very velvety. The piece of grass came up with the roots and I left it there to help with contrast and perspective. The closest thing I can find to it is wynnea americana, aka moose antlers, but this has just the one cup-like formation instead of several. Awaiting the word of the masters!
  3. Thanks! You are correct--the spore print is white. I collected it on a day I forgot my camera, so no shot of the stem base. (Managed to forget the camera again today, and I have another mystery to post soon.) Appreciate the help.
  4. Found this mushroom today in an area I visit almost every day, and where I gather many different kinds of mushrooms, including blewits and boletes. Hadn't seen this one before today. I was at first thinking of it as a trumpet, but poking around the internet so far I'm thinking it's likely a funnel clitocybe. The stalk and gills were cream/white when first picked, with brown coloring creeping in since then. It has a lovely aroma! The cap is smooth, dry, and grayish brown. I'll have a spore print come morning. Any thoughts? Thanks bunches-- Deb
  5. Greetings, All, from Vermont. I'm making nearly daily visits to my nearest wild mushroom garden, and am harvesting a healthy haul of boletes, puff balls, and blewits. Haven't been able to travel to my chanterelle and shaggy mane sites yet. Have several mushrooms I'd like to identify, especially a trumpet that smells wonderful and I hope turns out to be a delightful edible. Very glad to have found this forum!
