  1. Thanks! What I was really trying to ask is if the slightly pink, hard, youngish looking and plastic-y lobsters are just as good to eat as the rich, red obvious ones. It seems when you catch them early they look like like a hard, plastic toy version of a mushroom. The photo of the one I attached looked a little rough because I didn't get to prepping it two days after I picked it. Anyways, I cooked it and the rest of them and they were all tasty.
  2. Hello all, Is there such thing as a Lobster mushroom not being "lobstery" enough? Or are they (russula brevipes in this case?) tasty as soon as they look slightly lobster-ised?
  3. This looks like a polypore type thing but it was growing in the ground in a mixed coastal hemlock forest. In a similar post on Facebook's Pacific Northwest Mushroom Identification and Information Forum someone else with a the same type of find mentioned Bondarzewia mesenterica?
  4. hi all, Found these on ground in a coastal hemlock/cedar forest. Can't decide if they are toothed or tubes... The underside of these are almost textureless. I am hoping albatrellus ovinus, not A. subrubescens. They aren't really staining any color. Pleasant but not distinct smelling.
  5. Can anyone help me ID this? I thought it was a teapot spout or handle at first. I found this on the side of a trail in grand fir, old plum trees and alders. I intend to go back and see what it matured to. thank you
