  1. In California we apparently do not have true ramps, but "only" wild leeks. I would dearly love to learn how to pick them.
  2. I desperately want to find morels (again).
  3. Thanks so much, sir! I will keep my eye out for them this spring. How do they compare in flavor to "real" Chants?
  4. Yeah, so I'm told. Do they grow in the spring, too?
  5. Guys, are hedgehogs (the ground ones) a winter and spring mushroom in California?
  6. Welcome FloorStalker. You'll love it here
  7. Yeah, quoting myself. I am wondering if they could have been blewits...I've never found/tasted one, but from taste descriptions, I could understand my nonna "dumping" picking them once she had found porcini and bue (amanita)
  8. Ahh, OK. Thanks for the clarification. Are there any other edible blue mushrooms in California? My nonna used to pick blue ones (stem bigger than the head, like a young porcino), Any ideas what they might have been?
  9. LOL. I, too, would like to find them. My dad remembers my grandmother picking a blue mushroom, but with a cap smaller than the stem (ala Boletus edulis). I wonder what it was?
  10. Haven't done this in awhile, and as it is offseason for you all.... Here's mine: 1. Chanterelles 2. Trumpets 3. Morels (again) 4. Manzanitas (again) 5. Hedgehogs (the ground ones...I have been slightly successful with the tree version) 6. Possibly corn smut. Not really convinced. Anyone ever had them as a Mexican soup? Over to you
  11. To pick list 1.Chanterelles 2.Trumpets 3.(ground) Hedgehogs 4. Morels (again)
  12. I am wondering if they can be found in the spring as well as in the fall in norCal*? *to be clear: I know they can be found in the fall; I am wondering if the spring, too
