  1. Look similar to the alcoholic milk caps found around here. Wait for others to chime in before a solid ID is determined
  2. WOW thats a white specimen - never found any like that before - incredible.
  3. I'm totally looking forward to the write up - here in my mushroomless neck of the woods things are pretty depressing
  4. Slimy jack by the looks of it but I'd wait for our resident experts to chime in. When cooking peel back that brown sticky layer so all yypu have is flesh. Your fingers will stain if you have bucket fulls
  5. What a pleasant surprise Dave - this was a cool find. I was portaging 8 km into a backlake when I stumbled upon these. About 10 were growing in a small mossy patch. They looked so cool because of their small cap on such a tall stalk. I swear some of these were almost a foot tall! Hopefully I can find them again next year and this time around harvest some of them. Thanks for posting up your pictures - really look forward to the rest of the alphabet
  6. I prefer them at this stages - soft and tender. Nice find.
  7. A monster of a king bolete inspired me to start this thread - post your big, rare, cool photos, whatever else mushroom related pics here so some of us can drool over pictures during the cold winter months. Big honey batch, thing was ginormous, I have never found anything like it before. Here are two massive boletes - the Earth shook when I excavated their fat stalks from the ground. Neat, apparently rare find. The more photos the merrier!
  8. I've found 8 trees with it near Toronto - all harvested.
  9. Pink stemmed 'edible bolete' look alikes were always discarded by my clan. If chewing them stung the tongue they were goners. They are called the devil from what I've been taught since a young shroomer. Cant tell if these are the devil or not - I've been known to make wrong IDs
  10. These are great edibles BUT if its your first time don't eat too many of them as they are known to cause stomach upsets - got rot feeling for some.
  11. I'd say so but wait for others to chime in.
  12. Hmmm... just let it grow and come back at a later time? If they grew to prime successive years I'm sure they'll do the same this year. Mushrooms have a way of sorting things out.
  13. Mushrooms LOL I think perhaps a latin name could scare people off
  14. Not all forests are alike. Honestly you just gotta put the leg work in to finding the right spots - sometimes 20 meters makes a world of a difference. Timing is key - 3 days can make a world of a difference. You know how many countless hours, dollars in gas, cut and bruises I had to go through to be where I'm at now? I've been doing this for 20 years and to this day there are days where I end up "hiking" and not find a single edible shroom. Keep pluggin' away - the mushrooms will come.
  15. Post #1 - look alot like the alcohol ink caps we have around here. I would wait for another member to confirm that.
  16. No, they're mushrooms. Sorry, I couldn't resist
  17. LOL Doesn't look too good my friend, from the pictures it looks like you may have a fungal infection.
