  1. Does anyone know what these are? All were found in January 2018 in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California at about 1200 feet elevation. It was just after a moderate rain. Type 1 was found in an open area under a tanoak and Douglas Fir canopy. Type 2 was found growing on a fallen tanoak log under more tanoak trees. Type 3 was found growing in the ground in an open area that has some short tanoak growth nearby, but nothing growing directly above it. Thanks!
  2. Can anyone tell me what time of the year we are likely to find Golden Chanterelles in Northern California? Specifically, we live in the Santa Cruz Mountains between Los Gatos and Santa Cruz (the Bay Area). We're at 1200 feet elevation and our winters are usually much wetter than the weather in the Bay Area proper. Our area is heavily forested with mostly Douglas Fir, Redwood, Tan Oak, Live Oak, Madrone, and California Bay. Thanks!
  3. Thanks. These are in our side yard and looked similar to the ones posted above. Do you know what these are? Thanks!
  4. These different kinds of mushrooms were growing in forested areas of my front yard in the Santa Cruz Mountains of northern California. Both were growing out of or on top of fallen logs. The first two pictures were in the same location and it looks like there could be 2 or 3 types of mushrooms there. The next 3 pictures of the white ones were nearby on another log. Can you tell me what kinds they might be?
  5. I found these growing behind a large tree at about 1300 feet elevation in a park in the Santa Cruz Mountains in CA that I live across from. Can anyone help identify them? Thanks
  6. I live in the forest which is mostly Tan oak, Madrone, and Douglas Fir. These were growing at the base of a large old oak stump. They were out by the end of my driveway. Could they be the Chanterelles I was looking for? Thanks
  7. Need help identifying this mushroom. We live in the Santa Cruz Mountains between Santa Cruz and Los Gatos, CA. The location was oak and fir forest. These were growing out of one of the fallen tan oak logs. Is it a Golden Chanterelle?
  8. We’d like some help identifying a type of mushroom that we found growing wild on our property. They were found on a downed tanoak tree branch. The location was in the Santa Cruz Mountains close to Saratoga and Los Gatos, CA. Elevation is about 1250 ft. It is a flat wooded area close to a steep drop-off into a creek gully and it is very wet during our winters. It is mostly tanoak with some Douglas Fir, Madrone, and California Bay as well. We are wondering if they might be golden chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius)? Thanks!
