I found this orange dots yesterday, and has there has come a little more this morning.

It is fully colonized and started when i began the fruiting process.

Is it a sign of Contamination ?

I have isolated it just to until i know for sure.

And can you identify what it might be ?

All the lions mane grow kits I have seen instruct you to place a bag over it and spray the inside of the bag to keep the lions mane humid.

I suspect this is because most people let the teeth grow out before harvesting.

I harvest mine shortly after the teeth emerge   Doing so allows me to spray the lions mane directly during the growing session   The only time I’ve had it turn brown was if I sprayed it directly after the teeth have started to grow.

This allows me to eliminate a grow chamber.

I recently gave a talk and had them walk through actually building oyster bags.  I wasn’t sure how many were attending and I only had one bag of oyster spawn, good to build about 14 bags.   So I emptied it into a clean plastic tub, and mixed in the contents of two of my oyster bags that had finished fruiting.  Then i filled 35 zip lock bags each with a cup and a half of this mix.

I came back with 23 bags of spawn mix left, so i built 23 oyster bags.  Have given four bags away.   My remaining 19 bags are pinning and it looks like  no I’ll have to plan some mushroom dishes for Easter.

I will focus on oyster and wine caps, getting into lions mane if time allows.  Will have enough materials along that 35 people can build their own oyster bags

  It would appear that  Fungiforyou   is a scam.

2 of my golden oyster totems rotted but one stood strong.  It has produced 3 strong flushes this summer.  They are much more fragile than other pleurotus species but they sure are tasty.  

To begin I purchased a live liquid culture syringe of Lion’s Mane from MycoHaus. I assumed these are a reputable dealer considering they sponsor the Shroomery forum.

I am going to skip over the details regarding creating the cakes, inoculation, and sterilization because my cakes look healthy at full colonization approximately 2 – 3 weeks after I inoculated them. Following full colonization, I allowed them to sit for one week. The pic below is right before I birthed the cakes from the mason jars.

After birthing the cakes, I submerged them in water for 24 hours. I then covered them in vermiculite and placed them in the fruiting chamber. My fruiting chamber has 10 centimeters of wet perlite in it. My grow light has a color of 6000K and runs on a 12-hour cycle. Similarly, I mist the cakes whenever they look dry (1 or 2 times a day) and fan them 3 times a day. I have them set up in my closet with the door always open a foot or two because I figured my living room would not allow the humidity in the fruiting chamber to stay high enough due to my air conditioning. After 4 weeks of no growth I removed the cakes from the chamber, re-wet the perlite, and placed the cakes back in the fruiting chamber. It has now been 8 weeks and I have not been able to get a single mushroom to grow. Below I have inserted pictures of my set up and cakes as they are currently (8 weeks after being placed in the fruiting chamber).

I have scoured the internet trying to determine why my cakes are not fruiting. One person noted in another forum that you won’t be able to grow only a few cakes in a large fruiting. However, if this were true, then why can this guy manage to grow 6 cakes in such a large fruiting chamber (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jkZKbip3Po – skip to 9:25 in)? Similarly, my fruiting chamber seems to hold humidity decently as I can feel the moisture when I stick my hand inside of it.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help : )

I saw these two techniques using boiling water on Field and Forest videos, and thought I’d try them.

First is an oyster block

In a grow bag, put 2.5 cups of hardwood pellets (or 1 pound sawdust), 1 cup of soy hull pellets (or 6.4 oz ground soy hulls, and 1.5 cups pelleted cottonseed hulls.  Shake it up well, then add 5.5 cups (or 2.5 pounds) boiling water.  Seal the bag, and let it cool overnight.  The next day, add 1.5 cups oyster spawn.

I did ten bags, and significant mycelium growth could be seen two days later.   I used ground soy hull and whole cottonseed hull, because it’s what I had.  Looks very promising so far.

The second technique is for lions mane, although I expect you could also use it for chestnut mushrooms.

In a grow bag, put 5 cups hardwood pellets, 1/2 cup of bran (I used soy hull, as I didn’t have bran),  and 5 cups of boiling water.  Let cool overnight then add 1.5 cups of spawn and seal the bag.  Video shows lions mane in a month, but I expect a little longer.

Mycelium growth is good, but they do state that there is a greater risk of infection than you have in sterilizing.  Out of the ten bags I did, I have had one infected so far

Do spawn block require Oxygen? I have two spawn blocks that each produced flushes of mushrooms a while ago. I plan to bury them outdoors in wood chips but won't be able to do this until mid May.

Right now they are vacuum packed in plastic bags in a refrigerator. Will they be OK or do I need to introduce some fresh air occasionally?

Gave four of the oyster buckets to a friend who was planning to give them to family for Christmas.

Had a house full yesterday for Christmas.  One of the guys logs with horses, and asked me what I need for mushroom logs.  I told him 3-6” limb wood would work. He’s cutting white oak in one location and rock(chestnut) oak in another.  He volunteered to cut some rock oak for me.

I also am friends with a father and son who are in my mushroom club.  They told me earlier that they plan to cut about a hundred logs.  They said if I’d help inoculate the logs, they’d split them with me. I told them I’d provide the spawn and wax.

After the second flush of mushrooms, is there a method of using the block out doors to continue more harvests this year or next?

I’m curious about the hydration rate and if mixed with straw, at what ratio.

I was wondering if any of you have tried the growing kits from Midwest Grow Kits and how it turned out? Or are there other kits you would recommend? 

On the day after Thanksgiving, I started 8 buckets of blue oysters on barley straw.   My plan is to start 6 to 8 buckets each month, about the same time each month, with the goal of being able to harvest oysters all year long. Figure they should start producing right after New Years.

Today I’m pressure cooking eight bags of masters mix.  Six done, last two in pressure cooker.  Will inoculate them tomorrow with chestnut mushrooms.  
 

Sometime before Christmas, I want to do eight bags of Lions Mane, and about February I need to get some oak logs to use up the bag of Shiitake that I have in the basement fridge.  Will do other bags of both lions mane and chestnut.

I recently purchased a Golden Oyster fruiting kit and I am attempting my first grow.  Around 36 hours ago the mycelium began to fruit.  It's looked similar to a head of cauliflower and I just wanted to check if this looks normal.  I've kept the temperature around 75F and humidity between 84-90%.  The CO2 level is unknown, hopefully they are getting enough O2.  I'm misting 2-3 times a day.

Do these pins look healthy?

I don't get along with beavers at the best of times; but this one really boiled my blood.  I'm surprised they wood eat them when covered in so much paraffin wax.
