I found a cauliflower for the first time but it was too slimy in the center for me.. I found something strange growing on a really old maple with a ton of moss. It was like an egg that was squishy. It was bigger under the moss so I separated one and popped it 🤢 the outside * shell* turned purple and the small beige egg was firm. Gonna watch the one I left to grow. Also gonna eat my first king bolete!! I've id'ed a couple now so this one's a keeper. Finally😋Mon, 07 Sep 2026 16:41:45 +0000I had no luck finding anyone in my region to send dried mushroom for spore testing but did find a video on you tube creator Boletus rejoice and one of his video does show Aueroboletus projectellus does often grow right against pine tree trunks which matches well my finds here in NB Canada. Boletus rejoice videos are made in the southern US under a different type of pine trees but we're both within the eastern NA range for Aueroboletus projectellus. It's late August almost early September, and I live in southeast Pennsylvania. The mushrooms are white, gilled, and have a bulbous bottom to them, plus a very distinct almost skirt around the middle of the stem. It's growing in my grass in the San Juan mountains of Colorado at 8100 ft. The yard/grass area is surrounded by conifer/pine trees. I already eat the fairy ring shrooms from my yard. The cap IA pale white to light brown, gills dont connect to the stile/stem, cap curls under at the edges. I appreciate any help. This mycoparasite attack these mushroom frequently in NB. The beech trees, damp area near a stream and time of appearance match. The area is densely wooded there's a ton of birch maple beech hemlock nearby are spruce fir pine, ferns a wild tiny stream... I did get a spore print and it looks a bit pinky/blush.
